Amazon Web Services

My first software engineering internship was at AWS. There, I worked on Elasticache, a fully managed in-memory data store using Redis or Memcached.

My project was to implement a feature to perform Redis cluster engine upgrades utilizing a failover-based approach. This meant that instead of taking a snapshot of a cluster, spinning up a new one with an updated engine version, and then uploading that snapshot to the new cluster, you could initiate an engine upgrade without having to take down the cluster. This allowed Elasticache customers, such as Airbnb and McDonald’s, to reduce downtime and save money on AWS maintenance.
